Did you know that Switzerland has four official languages? There’s German in the north, Italian in the south, French in the west and Romansh in a very small area in the east of Switzerland. I grew up in the German speaking part, which allows me to travel around most of Switzerland without any language difficulties. When I set out on a day trip to the Ticino, however, I knew I was in for an Italian adventure.
Switzerland is an incredibly beautiful country that has plenty to offer. While most travelers have already heard of some of Switzerland’s most popular sites (such as the Matterhorn in Zermatt or the highest railway station in Europe on the Jungfraujoch in Interlaken), there are a few stunning sights that are mostly unknown, but absolutely worth a visit. One of those hidden gems are the Trümmelbach Falls in the Lauterbrunnen valley.
Whenever I talk to fellow travelers, it seems that Switzerland is a bit of a mystery to them, kind of like a unicorn – everyone’s talking about it, you’ve heard some incredible stories surrounding it (yes, it’s true, all we eat is melted cheese and chocolate!) and you’re just a tiny bit doubtful whether it actually exists or not.
But fear no longer! This Swiss Miss is here to tell you everything you need to know to have a marvelous time in the fairy tale land that is Switzerland.
